Policy
changes
During the 2000-01 school
term discipline will be divided among the assistant principals as follows:Ms.
Guthrie will handle bus discipline for all grade levels and tardies for
all grade levels. Mr. Johnson will see for discipline grade 10, 11
and 12, except for football players. Mr. Vasvary will see for discipline
grade 9 and all football players. You will see changes in the discipline
code in the following areas:
- Tardiness to class and school: A student accumulating the first set of five tardies will be assigned one (1) day of In-School Suspension and a letter will be sent home to parents. If a student accumulates the second set of five tardies the student will be assigned two (2) days of In-School Suspension and a letter will be sent home to parents. The third set of five tardies will result in Out-of-School Suspension. (Bold indicates change from 1999-2000).
- Honor Code violations:
Our honor code states, "I have neither given, received, nor observed
any unauthorized assistance on this test, exam, or assignment."
During the last several school terms we have experienced an increase in
honor code violations and have had to discipline students for this.
A point of emphasis for the 2000 - 2001 school term will be the proper
annotation for internet sources. Please refer to page 20 of the student
handbook (which will be given to students the first week of school) for
consequences for an honor code violation.
- Dress Code: Parents, we need your help in this matter. The dress code has been revised and developed so that a student's dress will not be a distraction to either the classroom teacher or other students. Our building is air-conditioned and the necessity of dressing for classrooms with temperatures in the nineties does not exist at Brookville.
Please
use the following guidelines when helping your son/daughter pick out attire
for the school day:
Neat and appropriate attire
is expected at all times. Shoes must be worn at all times.
In
addition, all tops must have full backs, sides, must cover the shoulders,
and must not be revealing. (Bold
indicates change from last year). The following clothing is
not considered appropriate attire: hats, caps, headbands, or other head
coverings; halter tops; mesh or see-through clothing; bare mid-riff shirts;
shirts with profane, obscene or otherwise inappropriate messages; tank
tops; sunglasses in building; jackets or outerwear in building; chains
attached to clothing; any other items of clothing deemed inappropriate
by the administration.
New
computer programs in use
Campbell County has purchased
two new computer software programs for administrative use.
The previous programs for grading, attendance, and bookkeeping have been
upgraded from a DOS to a Windows program. The installation
of these programs occurred in early August. Although we are
not proficient at this time, we will be better able to serve the
students and public with these new programs. We thank you in
advance for your patience and understanding in this matter.
Internet
use policy
The Campbell County School
Board has developed guidelines for student and staff use of computers and
the Internet, and requires students to have their parent's or guardian's
approval before use. Students new to Brookville will be given the form,
"Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement." Students will need to return
their copy of the form with their signature indicating their understanding
of the rules and regulations. In addition, there is a parent permission
section for parents to fill in, giving the student permission to use the
Internet. Students who fail to return the acknowledgment form will
not be allowed to use any computer with Internet capacity.
Meeting
student's health needs
Parents and students are
reminded that all medications must be dispensed through the school nurse's
office. This includes any over-the-counter medications, such as aspirin
or cold medications. A medical authorization form for each medication must
be filled out by a parent before the medication may be dispensed.
Parents need to bring the
medications to the nurse's office, where the medication will be logged
in. If students must carry medication with them, such as an inhaler or
epinephrin, a doctor will need to authorize the usage.
Parents who wish to send
medication
to school for their students must follow guidelines in order for the medication
to be given. Authorization forms for medications are available from the
nurse or from the main office.
If you have questions concerning the policy, please call or stop in the nurse's office at any time.
Emergency
information
It is important that the
high school office has accurate emergency information for each student
on file. As you fill out the emergency card for your student, please make
sure current phone numbers, addresses, and medical information are correct.
The emergency contact person should be someone who is accessible during
school hours.
If any information changes during the school year, please contact the school immediately.
Student
parking information
The
speed limit in the high school parking lot is 10 MPH.
Vehicles
should always be locked and valuables stored out of sight.
Once
the senior parking lot is full, seniors must park in the underclassmen's
lot.
Students
who park at Brookville High School do so at their own risk.

will be present. The program will be held in the gym.
Juniors, seniors, and their parents are encouraged to attend. If you have questions, please see your counselor.
Senior
classroom visits
Mrs. Kaplan will be visiting
senior English classes during the first two weeks of school. Students will
review the college application process, the financial aid process, SAT
dates, ACT dates, the importance of deadlines, and other matters of importance
to seniors.
Seniors are reminded that
the SAT I and SAT II cannot be taken on the same day.
If you plan to attend CVCC or another Virginia community college, SAT's or ACT's are not required for admission. Community colleges administer their own placement tests.

science, and other technical disciplines. This program is an on-going monthly
pre-college program for ninth through twelfth graders who meet the qualifications.

the administration and students. We anticipate meeting parents at the freshman/new
student orientation on August 22, at the open house on September 22, and
at the academic awards breakfast. We hope all parents will join the PTSO

Membership representatives will be on hand to answer your questions and
sign you up at most school activities during the first month of school.
Band

The band boosters are now
selling school supplies in the high school cafeteria Monday through Friday,

Athletic
Boosters Club
The summer is gone and our
first fall sports scrimmage has already taken place. The State Champion
football team will no doubt "bee" a force to be reckoned with again this
year.
Our fall sports program
is scheduled to go to press on August 21. We are anticipating a full program
of BHS sports supporters due to our tremendous success on the gridiron.
Senior parents, this is your
last call to get your participating fall sports and band students baby
photo and $10 to our booster mail box in the school office. Deadline is
Thursday, August 17. "Senior corner" just won't be the same without your
baby's mug.
Look for our Booster Club
membership table on registration day. You will be able to display your
colors by purchasing some great bee stuff to support our athletes.
The next board meeting is September 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Come and see how you can "bee" involved. Our first general meeting is September 25 at 6:30 p.m.
