Ramsey Moore, ISS Instructor; and Mrs. Anna Noble, Attendance Clerk. Mr. Tom
Cole is replacing Bobby Johnson on our Administrative Staff and Mrs. Kathryn
Kaplan is our new Guidance Director. We welcome our new staff members and look
forward to working with them.
Dress Code
Parents, we need your help in this matter. The dress code has been revised and
developed so that a student's dress will not be a distraction to either the
classroom teacher or other students.
Our building is air-conditioned and the necessity of dressing for classrooms
with temperatures in the nineties does not exist at Brookville. Please use the
following guidelines when helping your son/daughter pick out attire for the
school day:
Neat and appropriate attire is expected at all times. Shoes must be worn at all
times. In addition, all tops must have full backs, sides, must cover the
shoulders, and must not be
revealing. The following clothing is not considered appropriate attire: hats,
caps, headbands, or other head coverings; halter tops; mesh or see-through
clothing; bare mid-riff shirts; shirts with profane, obscene or otherwise
inappropriate messages; tank
tops; sunglasses in the building; chains attached to clothing; any other items
of clothing deemed inappropriate by the administration.
Student Schedules
Schedules have been finalized and changes from one course to another will be
made only under the following circumstances:
- Failure of a course which is a pre-requisite for a scheduled course or a
graduation requirement.
- Computer error.
Parents, please call your student's counselor if you have questions or concerns.
Internet Use Policy
The Campbell County School Board has developed guidelines for student and staff
use of computers and the Internet, and requires students to have their parent's
or guardian's approval before use. Students new to Brookville will be given the
form, "Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement." Students will need to return
their copy of the form with their signature indicating their understanding of
the rules and regulations. In addition, there is a parent permission section for
parents to fill in, giving the student permission to use the Internet. Students
who fail to return the acknowledgment form will not be allowed to use any
computer with Internet capacity.
Meeting Student's Health Needs
Parents and students are reminded that all medications must be dispensed through
the school nurse's office. This includes any over-the-counter medications, such
as aspirin or cold medications. A medical authorization form for each medication
must be filled out by a parent before the medication may be dispensed. Parents
need to bring the medications to the nurse's office, where the medication will
be logged in. If students must carry medication with them, such as an inhaler or
epinephrine, a doctor will need to authorize the usage.
Parents who wish to send medication to school for their students must follow
guidelines in order for the medication to be given.
Authorization forms for medications are available from the nurse or from the
main office.
If you have questions concerning the policy, please call or stop in the nurse's
office at any time.
Special Alert Concerning Latex Products
We have been notified that we have people (students, parents, and/or staff) who
have severe allergies to latex products such as latex gloves and latex balloons.
If these people are exposed to latex products they could have a life-threatening
allergic reaction. Therefore, we will take every precaution to prevent exposure
to latex products. We will not accept any deliveries of latex balloons to our
building (Mylar balloons will be accepted). Please help us by not sending any
latex balloons for birthdays or other occasions.
County Policies on School Buses
The Code of Virginia, Section 22.1-176 states, in part, that "County School
Boards may provide transportation of pupils, but nothing herein contained shall
be construed as requiring such transportation." Campbell County provides
convenient transportation for all students, K-12. Students riding school buses
must abide by the same set of school board rules and regulations governing
student conduct in school, and are subject to the same disciplinary procedures.
- LOADING AND UNLOADING
Each student should be at the bus stop five minutes before scheduled time and
stand a safe distance from the highway while waiting. Any students who must
cross a road to board or exit a school bus, must walk in front of the bus in an
orderly fashion using the hand rail. In addition, students who need to ride a
different bus, or get off their bus at a different location, may do so only with
proper parent and administrative permission and
documentation.
- PASSENGER RULES
1. Students are to obey the driver promptly and respectfully. The driver
has the authority to assign seats.
2. Students are to keep arms and head inside the bus at all times.
3. Students are not to throw objects on, from, or at a school bus, another
vehicle and/or persons.
4. Students are to hold their belongings and not take up seating space with
them. (Backpacks, coolers, school projects, etc.)
5. Students are not to bring glass containers on the bus; all other containers
must be in a lunch box or book bag.
6. Students are not to eat, drink, or chew gum on the bus.
7. Students are not to play radios, CD players, video games or tape recorders on
the school bus.
8. Students are not to use profanity, immoral language or
gestures.
9. Students are to talk in a normal conversational voice to students on the same
seat.
10. Students are to take their proper seat and remain seated until place of
departure.
Emergency Information
It is important that the high school office has accurate emergency information
for each student on file. As you fill out the emergency card for your student,
please make sure current phone numbers, addresses, and medical information are
correct. The emergency contact person should be someone who is accessible during
school hours. If any information changes during the school year, please contact
the school immediately.
Student Parking Information
The speed limit in the high school parking lot is 10 MPH.
Vehicles should always be locked and valuables stored out of sight.
Parking at Brookville High School is a privilege and parking is first come,
first serve.
Once the senior parking lot is full, seniors must park in the underclassmen's
lot.
All accidents on school property must be reported to Deputy Farmer.
Students who park at Brookville High School do so at their own risk.
Any student who receives a Brookville parking ticket must see an Administrator
or Deputy Farmer by the end of the day.

PTSO News
The PTSO welcomes back all students, parents, and staff for what we hope will be
another successful year. Even as our children progress in school, it remains
critical to know what is going on in their school lives and for us to become
involved in their schools. One way to do this is to join and become active in
the PTSO. We invite you to join the PTSO on registration day or at any other
time during the year, and to volunteer your time and expertise for activities
such as the After Grad Party, the academic awards breakfast, and senior outlook
day. If you have any questions, contact Christopher Millson-Martula at 525-0829.
Athletic Boosters
The Brookville High School Sports Boosters are very excited about the 2002-2003
school year. The Boosters welcome this year's Freshman class and their parents.
We would like to encourage and invite all parents to join. The annual membership
fee is $5.00.
Membership forms will be available at the ninth grade orientation on August 20
and August 21 at school registration. Janice Blanks, Membership Chairman, can be
contacted at 237-4226 to answer any questions or concerns.
Also, Rick Hodnett, President, may be reached at 821-0703. The Boosters will be
selling a variety of new items featuring the BHS logo! Stop by the "BEE BARN"
during the football games to make your purchases. The souvenirs will also be
available at the concession stand during basketball games. The Boosters along
with Domino's pizza will be selling chances to kick a 35 yard field goal at home
football games. If the lucky chosen winner successfully completes the field goal
attempt, he/she will receive a $100.00 check from Domino's Pizza!
GO BEES!
Band Boosters
It's hard to believe that the 2002-2003 school year is upon us. Although I have
been a very active band booster since 1995, this is a special year for me since
it is my first year as President of this booster organization. I consider it a
privilege and am looking forward to a great year. I extend a warm welcome to all
band members and their parents and hope that you find the coming year to be a
productive and enjoyable one. The boosters have already planned several
fundraisers. We will be holding our back to school supply sale in the main lobby
of the middle school only. We will have supplies for high school students also
and encourage you to come to the middle school on registration day to purchase
what you need. We will also be having our 3rd Backward's dinner for two and the
chance to win a
grand prize of $10,000.00. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing
a ticket. We will also be hosting a band festival (competition) on October 12,
2002 in Stinger
Stadium. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend this event.
After Grad
Celebrate Life!
Attention Parents of the Class of 2003:
Our chance is here to provide our seniors with a very special and life
saving event.....The All Night Alcohol and Drug Free After Graduation Party!
This party will be OUR gift to the
Class of 2003! Why bother with something like this? Because the two most
dangerous nights of the year for teens are after prom and graduation, with
graduation being the biggest party night. Peer pressure is great and many feel
that a celebration is not
complete without alcohol or drugs. For the past twelve years, Brookville parents
and our community have pulled together to provide a fabulous party without the
dangers of alcohol or drugs. This celebration is the last time that the class
will be together as a whole. It truly is a party of a lifetime! The party will
be a success if we all take an active part and show enthusiastic support. For
those of you who have worked on the party before, you know what a precious
memory it is to be involved and how much fun it is to work with other parents
who are committed to the idea! Again, the party is a GIFT from us to our kids!
The party represents a GIFT of LOVE...a GIFT of FUN...a GIFT of LIFE! The date
and time of our first organizational meeting will be announced soon. You will
receive that information in the form of a mailing as soon as it is finalized.
This meeting will include a video of the past year After-Grad Party, a brief
description of each committee and a chance for you to sign up to help! Remember,
details of the party should be kept SECRET from anyone outside of the
committees! If you have any questions, please call Cathy Woody at 525-5738.
Included in this newsletter is a listing of the Steering Committee members and
their E-Mail addresses. Please look over this list and choose a Committee that
interests you!
