REMINDER #1: Junior Parent/Student Night
Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 - 7:00pm BHS Auditorium

Any student who attends will receive an extra credit coupon to use with any sponsoring teacher.
Sponsoring teachers include Llewellyn, Hogsed, Morris, Ewers, Tate, Dyke, Humphrey, Pieleck, Sublette, Alley, Gibson, Burnett, Geier, Cook, Scharnus, Burford, Davis, Young, Short, Zuidema, K. Brown, C. Brown, Baker, Emanuel, Shuler, H. Brown, White, Masci, and Shackelford

REMINDER #2: The 2nd six weeks ends Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007.

Monthly Career & College Timeline for High School Juniors

November:

  • Review the admissions requirements for the colleges that interest you.
     
  • Email, call, or write colleges to request brochures, viewbooks, and program information. You can usually request this information directly from the colleges website. Direct links to every college in Virginia are located on your www.bhsbees.com website.
     
  • Set up an appointment with your Guidance Counselor to discuss college and/or career plans.

Scholarships & Awards

America’s First Freedom Student Competition
Deadline: Completed application must be postmarked by noon on December 1, 2007.
Eligibility: Virginia H.S. Students
Prizes: 1st Places - $3000 2nd Places - $1500 3rd Places - $750

Lee-Jackson Scholarship Program
Deadline: Completed application must be submitted to Ms. Wille in the Guidance Office by Jan. 4, 2008.
Eligibility: Must be a junior or senior in a VA public or private high school and plan to attend a 4 yr. College or a 2-year college with plans to transfer to a 4-year college.
Prizes: Three $1000 scholarships will be awarded in each of VA’s 8 school regions for a total of 18 $1000 Scholarships. The best essay of the 3 selected from each region will receive an additional $1000. That winner moves on to the state level where they compete for an additional $8000 for a total of $10,000 in scholarship money.

Create a Greeting Card Scholarship
Deadline: Completed applications must be received by January 15, 2008.
Eligibility: Must be a high school student and create a greeting card using an original work of art or photograph.
Prizes: $10,000 cash scholarship

College Representative Visits to BHS
Visits will take place in the Multipurpose Room. Be sure to sign up in the Guidance Office to hear the presentation and meet the representative at least 2 days prior to their visit. Make the meeting more meaningful by exploring the colleges website prior to the visit and coming to the meeting with prepared questions.
