Sarah Wright
Brookville High School
2003 Graduation Speech

I’d like to begin by congratulating my classmates.
After weeks of being anxious for this night to come, graduation is finally here!
I have no profound philosophy, no special memories to share with you tonight.
All I have to offer is some simple advice that I hope will help you succeed in all areas of life.
Henry Ford said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”
As you go through life, stay focused on the important things.
Whatever you value, whatever you cherish, whatever your goals and dreams are, set your eyes on those things and never give up!
However, you should never be satisfied with focusing only on your needs and wants.
I challenge you to make a difference in the world.
Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give!”
We have the potential to change the lives of people around us.
A smile, a hug, a few kind words of encouragement: it doesn’t take a huge amount of effort to brighten someone’s day, but there is nothing more rewarding.
Make it your life’s purpose to care more about others and to give.

Also, know that there is someone who gave everything for you:
His name is Jesus Christ, and He’s the only reason I’m standing here tonight.
Christ’s gift of salvation and eternal life in heaven is available to everyone who will receive it, because of His sacrifice on the cross.
He took the burden of our sins and made it His own.
He died for us, and there is no greater act of love.
The decision to follow God is the best one you can ever make.
No, life won’t be perfect, but He will give you the joy, peace, and strength you need to live it day by day.
You’ll never regret turning to Jesus: I know I haven’t!
The best advice I can give you is:
          Laugh at yourself
          Learn from your mistakes
          “Later” isn’t guaranteed, so
          Love unconditionally
          Live with passion and
          Leave with a smile.
