BEDFORD - Brookville quarterback Chad Steuck had time to make big plays. His counterpart, Steven Brawley had no such luxury.

"I was real pleased with the way we controlled the line of scrimmage - that was the difference," said Brookville coach Bobby Johnson after the Bees dominated Liberty 34-7 Friday night in the Seminole District opener for both teams.

The Bees, winning their fourth straight game after a season opening loss to Salem, held the Minutemen (2-3) to just three first downs and only 43 yards rushing on 29 carries.

"They beat us about every phase of the game," said Liberty coach Scott Abell after the Minutemen lost their third straight game. "With our quickness, I thought we'd be able to move the ball. They just executed better than we did."

With a homecoming crowd of more than 1,500 watching, the Bees scored the first two times they had the ball and Steuck, a 5-foot-11, 172 pound junior was the key man in both.

On the Bees' first possession, Steuck drove the Bees 64 yards in five plays and hit Levar Anthony on a crossing pattern for a 34-yard TD pass less than three minutes into the game.

Moments later, the Bees went 34 yards in two plays with Steuck scampering 19 yards to his right on a naked bootleg. It was 14-0 with 6:42 left in the first quarter.

"On that play, everybody thought the ball was going the other way including everybody on my team," said Steuck who scored untouched. "The coach (Johnson) gave me the signal to keep it and I was the only one that knew."

Steuck, who was injured early in the season, has been getting better every week said Johnson. "He has good speed and is a good runner and carried out the fake well."

Abell said getting down 14-0 early took the Minutemen out of their game plan which was to try to move the ball behind the running of Shannon Clark and Chase Andrews. "They defended our option pretty well and our 15-year-old quarterback was looking up at the wrong color jerseys most of the night."

Johnson noted that Liberty has several excellent skilled athletes but said, "When you are getting penetration (from the opposing defense), it's hard for you to do anything."

Steuck and wide receiver Martellus Braxton hooked up on a great play just before halftime to give the Bees a 21-0 lead.

After having a first-and-goal at the Liberty 10, the Bees had three penalties that contributed to a fourth-and-34. The Liberty defense was flagged for roughing Steuck and the Bees had first down at the 19.

Steuck then rolled right and threw a perfect TD pass in the corner of the end zone to Braxton, who was being double teamed.

"To have not played receiver before this year, he (Braxton) is getting better every week," said Johnson. "He really doesn't know what it's all about yet. And Steuck had good protection, threw the ball well and we blocked well for him."

"I was pleased with the way I threw the ball tonight and with the way I ran," said Steuck. "We've been practicing the passing game more this week."

The Bees put the exclamation mark on their win by going 67 yards for a TD on their first possession of the second half. Dejon Kennedy, who had 124 yards on 12 carries, went off tackle for the last 13 yards and Brookville led 28-0 with 8:31 left in the third quarter.

Even though Johnson substituted liberally after that, the Minutemen failed to get a first down in the second half, had a punt partially blocked and the Bees intercepted a Brawley pass.

The Liberty fans did have one big moment when Andrews returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown with 4:04 left in the game.
