Brookville High School Meeting Minutes September 18, 2006
Attendees: Jennifer Mariner, Toby Murphy, Kathy Kaplan, Debra Guthrie, Dana Rieley, Anne Drewry, Jim Whorley, Ann Barley, and Hilda Morcom.
In Gwen Arthur’s absence, Hilda Morcom called the meeting to order.
1. Approval of the minutes of the May 1, 2006, meeting
Motion made by Dana Rieley to approve the minutes of the May 1, 2006, meeting as submitted. Motion seconded by Debra Guthrie.
2. Reports
a. Treasurer – Cindy Harding was not present but sent via e-mail the PTSO and AGP financial statement. As of 9/18/06, the PTSO balance is $653.94 and the AGP balance is $260.97 totaling the checkbook balance thru 9/18/06 as $914.91.
b. After Grad Party – See above for financial statement balance. The AGP is in search of a chairperson; all other committee chairs have been filled. Debra Guthrie helped Vicki Hunt with the mass mailing to the senior parents announcing the first AGP meeting on October 2nd.
c. Scrip Program – No report. Hilda Morcom will extend the invitation to Betsy Burns to attend the PTSO meetings for Scrip updates.
d. Membership – Jennifer Mariner reported 117 members. Membership is down from 148 last year.
e. Hospitality – Anne Drewry reported she & Dana Rieley treated the custodians to a luncheon this summer. They were very appreciative.
f. School Administration
Mr. Whorley reported:
- A new security system has been installed at BHS throughout the building including all entrances. Every high school and middle school throughout the county will eventually have a security system.
- The new AP European history class is going well.
- New band classes have been added. Mr. Ralls has returned from Iraq and is the band director at the high school. Mr. Nettles is the band director at the middle school.
- BHS has 6 new teachers this year. They are:
John Alley, Spanish Chelsea Edmonds, Spanish Mark Hogsed, English Karen Hopkins, Math Larry Kidd, Weight Training (coming from BMS) Sarah Swift, Earth Science
- Wireless Broadband should be installed by Thanksgiving countywide. This should help make our computer systems faster and more efficient.
- BHS is again recognized as a fully accredited school and also meets the No Child Left Behind guidelines.

Parent/Teacher Conferences October 18th

Election Day – School Closed November 7th
Chorus Concert at LC November 14th
Academic Breakfast November 17th
School Closed November 22nd
Other points of interest:
- The 2006 yearbooks have arrived.
- Every teacher now has access to a LCD projector, document camera, and interwrite pad. This new technology works in conjunction with their computer giving students not only oral presentations but visual aids as well. All of the teachers are very excited about this new teaching aid.
g. Guidance Department
Mrs. Kaplan reported:
- The Guidance Department sponsored a “Transition into College” workshop in August. It was well attended by parents and students with a lot of good information from several speakers from area colleges.
- Mrs. Kaplan and Ms. Willie have been visiting the senior English classes going over the steps for applying to college.
- They have also been visiting the 10th & 11th grade math classes in preparation for the PSATs scheduled for October 21st.
- Mrs. Hopkins is conducting an after school class for students in preparation for PSATs and SATs.
- Mrs. Bowles is addressing the 9th grade students on study skills.
